How the Membership and Accounting Department Serves You
The Texas REALTORS® Accounting and Membership Department handles the association’s record-keeping so members can receive the services they rely on.
The Accounting team watches the association’s expenditures, from managing payroll and benefits for 70-plus staffers to maintaining accounts payable and receivable. Accounting pays the organization’s bills. These team members help compile the annual budget and track it throughout the year. They’re responsible for financial reporting as well.
Much of the department’s work involves interacting with databases and financial software. Accounting Specialist Katie Stefano processes payments to vendors and works on expenses related to the association’s credit cards and travel reimbursements, among other things.
The Membership team handles the paperwork for the more than 150,000-member association. Membership manages records, bills for dues, and processes payments. They receive members’ calls and field questions about membership issues.
Membership Supervisor Camryn Ball answers members’ calls when they have trouble with their records or forms. “I have built great relationships with the local associations,” she says. “It’s great to have a friendly conversation with them and the members who call. I get to do a deep dive into new systems and help solve problems.”
“Our team’s daily focus is to serve members of Texas REALTORS® in every possible way that allows them access to their benefits when they need them,” says Susan Chichester, Controller/Membership Director.
Team members praise the Accounting and Membership Department as a dynamic, fast-paced work environment in which every day is different. They enjoy being a close-knit team; staffers say they feel like they have each other’s back.
“A lot of folks think accounting is boring or that numbers are boring,” says Chichester. “Not at all. Every day I get to solve puzzles.”
